Reflecting on Riverway Reflections

A new collection of handmade journals now available!

Nothing replaces the feeling of when you put pen to paper. No laptop, smartphone, or tablet feels the same as when you write something down in your own handwriting. There is a lot of research available explaining how your brain retains differently when you write things down. I could have filled this article with statistics, but I chose not to. Mostly, because it’s kind of boring.

What isn't boring, is getting a new journal or notebook. There’s something magical when searching for the right notebook to record your thoughts, aspirations, or memories. A journal is a place you write important stuff, so it should be special. I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t have at least one journal near my side. Like a best friend waiting to listen, remember, or guide me through life, my journals have heard it all.

They make great gifts too. Years ago, I gave my friends a journal for their cabin. This guest book became a place to record great memories, the weather, and visitors. Maybe your journal provides you a place to record your blessings, preferences, or brilliant ideas.

Never underestimate the power of pandemic. During the past few months, I found myself searching for a distraction from the news and something positive to fill my time. I thought "I wonder if I could make my own journals?” Well, you don’t know until you try. I shared with my husband my idea and explained this could take months, years, or weeks to figure out, but I was going to give it a whirl. He encouraged me to go for it. I believe, tucked in any negative situation are gifts. For me, 2020 will be the year I started my collection of journals.

After many prototypes, a lot of failures, and a few successes, I am thrilled to share with you my collection of handmade journals. There were some very frustrating days during the process, but I pushed through them, took some breaks, and sometimes started over. It has been a ton of work, but I LOVE IT!

When I create a journal, I hold it in my hand and wonder what important things will be written in the pages? Who will love this journal as much as I did when making it?

The support I have received from friends and family along the way has been tremendous. There are too many to mention here. They have been honest with their opinions, generous in sharing tools, and willing to test the product. Lori, owner of Onsite Apparel in downtown Hudson, WI is already selling them! Thank you to each and every one of you (you know who you are) for believing in me.

So, when you are ready for your next journal or need a gift idea, check out my website or stop downtown. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see them all, and contact me if you are looking for a personalized one!
